Lieber Ernst,
Verzeihe mir daß ich nicht schon eher geschrieben habe den uns ist die Zeit hier sehr mangelhaft, wir müssen vor 4 Uhr bis abend um 8 Uhr schuften und unser pro Mann auf 7000 liter Milch bringen, dan hatman des Abends nicht mehr viel lust zum schreiben.
Ich habe auch noch keinen geschrieben aber sei mir nicht böse und schreibe bald mal wieder grüße alle Deine Daheim und sage ich konnte noch nocht an Ihr denken. Mir geht es hier nicht so gut als wie da aber man muß alles durchmachen sonst wird man zuletzt verwöhnt.

Dear Ernst,
Forgive me that I did not write any sooner; I did not have any time. We have to get up at four o’clock in the morning, and work until eight o’clock in the evening. We have to bring in our quota per person to 7000 litres of milk. And then in the evening one doesn’t have any enthusiasm to write.
I have not written to anybody yet. Please don’t be cross with me and do write me again. Greet everyone at home and tell them I could not [send] my thoughts to them. I don’t like it very much here, I liked it better at the other place, but I think you have to go through all this, otherwise you get spoiled.
